As we are 1000 m above sea level, our night sky is particularly clear .
Our public lighting is switched off after 11pm..
If you want to discover some deep-sky objects or planets, don’t hesitate to ask us to show you some.
We have a Dobsonian 254/1200 and a 114/910 Newtonian telescope in which you can see galaxies or nebulae.
Stargazing evenings
Be aware that trainees are responsible for their travel costs to go to the stargazing site.
Don’t pick a full moon period !
On full moon nights, nebulae and galaxies are incredibly hard to see. We’ll be limited to globular and open clusters, double stars and really bright objects.
Observation à la lunette astronomique
Thanks to our Newtonian telescopes (a Dobson 254/1200 and a 114/910), Saturn and its rings, Jupiter and its four main sattelites can bee seen, as weel as some deep sky objets like galaxies, globular clusters, nebulea...
Pay attention that we can’t provide as much information as an encyclopedia ! We are not specialists, but we’ll definitely enjoy charing our knowlege with you.
What are the essential equipment to bring and which ones to avoid
To spend a nice evening under a celestial vault together , it’s better to be well equipped.
- Don’t take a bright flashlight unless you want to return to the apartment safely. It’s better to choose a red led light to preserve your night vision (it takes about 30 mn to acquire)
- Dress warmly ! Mountains can be cold at night, even if you could have another impression during the day. Fleeces and good socks are recommended ;-)
Observations possibles, si la saison le permet
Planetery
- Saturn and its rings
- Jupiter and its satellites
Deep sky
- Andromeda Galaxy (M31) and its companions (M32, M110) which orbit around it.
- Smaller galaxies, but just as interesting as the previous one: The Whirlpool Galaxy M51, which is dancing with its neighbor NGC5195.
- The Leo triplet, in spring. You’ll be able to see 3 galaxies in the eyepiece.
- Some globular clusters like M13 (in Hercules)
- and finaly, some famous Nebulae like M42 (Orion in winter), the Seven Sisters of the Pleiades, or The Lagoon Nebula (M8) towards the south in summer,
- Double stars and many objects can be discovered in a clear evening
This list is, of course, incomplete.
